Cheap Hotels in Amsterdam & Amsterdam Hotel Guide

Amsterdam is a city of coffee-shops, canals, with its own life-style. It really is the flower-capital of the world, being the only place where a tulip bulb can cost more then a garden with thousands of tulips; and it is also the place where a hotel is extremely hard to find, if you do not think of it beforehand.

I always cared about it before my arrival in Amsterdam and advise the same to everybody. Well, now about one of the hotel I used to stay - Hotel Vijaya Amsterdam.

Rooms of the Amsterdam Hotel Vijaya has a standard set of facilities: toilet, bathroom, dressing table, luggage space, radio, TV, air-conditioner. As for the service, change of linen is only two times a week, and in the bathroom you will find only soap but towels are changed daily. Rooms themselves are 10-12 sq. m. (around 108-130 sq. feet). It is also necessary to mention, that the room cost includes breakfast and city tax. The reception works twenty four hours, with check out at 11.00 am and check-in at 12.00 am.

This Amsterdam hotel ’s location is within two minute walk to Dam Square, where I found wonderful cafe La Place with plain wooden interior - as if that of an old Dutch ship - and very delicious dishes cooked right in your presence. There is a skating rink near the cafe in winter: a must to visit.

The hotel location of hotel Vijaya in Amstedam is almost ideal, as you can visit the Royal Palace that rests on the pilework. Dutchmen call it the Eighth Wonder of the World, and in my opinion as well it is the best example of the Dutch architecture. By the way, the Dutchmen are great at construction on the water: nearly half (or even greater part) of their country is built on what previously used to be a sea bed and the houses on piles can be met everywhere. So, it seems like they just couldn’t help but build a palace for their royal family on something as solid as water.
